Be smart, play brilliant, and discover how to play craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard during a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French moved south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. A few acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he created the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
