Be clever, play brilliant, and discover how to play craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps developed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the birth of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s knights played Hazard amid a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French relocated south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
