Dice and dice games date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when driven away by the English, the French relocated down south and found refuge in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair.
