Be clever, play brilliant, and master craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps developed from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s knights played Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when displaced by the English, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is derived from the name of the non-winning toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and all over the nation. A great many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Later, he created the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
