• Be a Master of Craps – Tips and Schemes: The Past of Craps

Be clever, play brilliant, and master craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Current craps come about from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the English, the French moved south and discovered safety in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and throughout the nation. A good many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he invented the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
